To migrate your VenioOne console server to a new machine, follow these steps. This process assumes you're keeping the existing SQL database intact and transferring the license accordingly. Ensure you back up any critical data (e.g., configurations, repositories) before proceeding, and perform this during a maintenance window to minimize disruption.
Preparation
1. Remove the License from the Old Server:
- Launch the License Management utility on the old console server: Navigate to `C:\Program Files\Venio\VenioFPR\License Management.exe`.
- Navigate to the 'Console License' tab click the 'remove license' of the old server and confirm. This deactivates it for transfer.
Installation on the New Server
2. Set Up the New Server:
- Ensure the new machine meets VenioOne system requirements (e.g., Windows Server OS, sufficient RAM/CPU, .NET Framework, etc.—refer to your installation media or Venio support for specifics).
- Install the VenioOne software on the new server using your existing installer package.
- During the installation wizard:
- Connect to your existing SQL database server (e.g., provide the database server name like `vendb01`, credentials, and select the appropriate database).
- Configure other settings as needed (e.g., ports, temp folders, distributed services if applicable).
3. Apply the License on the New Server:
- Once installation is complete, open the Venio Console for the first time on the new server.
- It will automatically prompt you to apply the license. Follow the on-screen instructions to activate it using your existing license key (contact Venio support if you need the key resent or if activation fails).
Post-Migration Verification
4. Test and Validate:
- Log in to the console and confirm access to existing projects (e.g., query tbl_pj_ProjectSetup to verify data integrity).
- Run a server status check and health checkup on all components (database, search servers, etc.).
- Test key functionalities like project creation, search, and processing in the web portal.
5. Decommission the Old Server:
- Once everything is verified on the new server, you can decommission or re-allocate the old server as necessary.
If you encounter issues during license transfer or database connection (e.g., errors related to SSIDs or distributed servers), provide the exact error messages, and we can assist further. For detailed admin guidance, check the VenioOne OnDemand Admin Guide (available via your support portal or at wiki.veniosystems.com/home/guides), particularly sections on Distributed Services and License Manager.
